It seems that jnlp AND applet demos do work back now, perfectly.
Thanks and Congratulations to the system administer and anyone involved (I know this is tricky)
Euhhm, not running on Chrome, unfortunately...

I just saw a note from our system administer addressing the jnlp demos.

He knows they are not working right now and they are in the queue to be fixed, but there are a number of more pressing items in front of them currently.

Sorry! And thanks for the updates! Please continue to be patient while the https cert implementation continues!

Hi Zack, I'm sorry to say, but I'm still getting the same URL redirect exception. Also can reproduce the same problem on https://goworldwind.org/demos/ when trying the ApplicationTemplate link there; http://worldwindserver.net/java/2.0....nTemplate.jnlp

I also tried an older jdk7 instead of jdk8, cleaned local java cache, tried it in both linux and windows environments, but no luck so far.

The url http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/java/2...orldwindx.jnlp is reachable, but trying to access that url directly with javaws results in just a

OMG, my favorite WW applet does not work anymore, with the very same error message
    http://worldwindserver.net/java/2.0....ullscreen.html
same with https, and even with the sites added in the exceptions list...
The beginning of the end for WWJ on the net ?

Can this also be the cause of the error:

    java.lang.SecurityException: illegal URL redirect

when we are refering to the extension like this in our .jnlp file? :
    <extension name="worldwindx" href="http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/java/2.0.0/webstart/worldwindx.jnlp"/>

This error suddenly started a couple of days ago, and we haven't changed anything on our side,

    builds.worldwind.arc.nasa.gov is not available.

Neither is worldwind22.arc.nasa.gov (placenames WFS layer).

Are these coming back or have they moved?

    Thanks.

Sorry the crashing example is AnimatedGlobe, not WorldSpinning...:(
    The stack is :
SEVERE: Exception during call to GL event display listener
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Error attempting to set orientation eye=(0.0?, 29.00000000000049?, 2.0E7) center=(0.0?, 29.00000000000049?, 0.0)
    at gov.nasa.worldwind.view.orbit.BasicOrbit View.setOrientation(Unknown Source)
    at gov.nasa.worldwindx.examples.AnimatedGlo be$AppFrame.stageChanged(Unknown Source)

I cannot reproduce the FlatWorldEarthquakes crash now, perhaps it was a problem with the USGS server.

I am running 2.0/java7/Windows8 on my home PC Intel DualCore I5 2GB ram, and 1.2(modified)/java6-7/Linux (don't remember the ram details) on my work station, and i can tell you things are much better on my work station.... My PC is not overloaded by anything, no virus afaik... It is obvious that first zoom/action with 2.0 stucks the display, and i can see memory growing up after several zooms/downloads.

Examples/demos are built to show WWJ capabilities...if they are buggy, that's a pity.

The TaskManager shows about the same CPU,GPU and memory usage as an earlier version of WWJ.
Are you using an older semi-smart cell phone?

I have not tried the examples you mentioned but examples are not part of the WWJ core code and not necessarily updated and debugged. That exercise can be left to the user.

Well I guess the answer is yes to my first question. Congratulations.
But I have bad news about testing these demos, online or not.
I dowloaded 2.0 and played with it and the "verdict" is : WWJ is getting too fat, guys !
Running just the ApplicationTemplate is obvious : resizing the window in and out (to force the repaint) shows the entire things redraw painfully...
The launching time is way too slow also, the JNLP loads many many dlls, the java applet logo spins like forever before things pop up...
(not talking about all the confirmation/installation/security/... boxes, that's another problem)
It looks like there too much to digest... Looking at the .jar files size, they have grown quite a lot,
and it reminds me when my company was writing heavily java, we had a system to load classes on-demand (i-e when each panel was really called). Maybe you could implement such a thing.
Also i noticed when downloading 2.0 that all the tactical files are passing by... Are they loaded at runtime ? Don't you think there should be a separated .jar for these, that would be loaded only in military applications. There is no mystery, the less java has to load, the faster it will run...

There is also a few demos crashing on Linux, like the WorldSpinning (Exception when zooming in) or the FlatEarthEartquakes (Exception at launch time)

    Regards

Are the online demos updated with 2.0 ? How can we know that (except looking at the JNLP file) ?
I know WWJ is "just" an SDK, but don't you think there should be a Help/About somewhere ? with a nice Nasa logo This is quite usual stuff.
There is a standard status bar in the south part, why not a header bar at the top... with a File/Print...
+any new online demo, specific or not to 2.0 ?
