WorldWind project shut down, this site probably will be too.

Hello all,

With the recent announcement that the NASA World Wind project has been shut down ( there is really very little reason to continue running this forum, and as NASA staff were providing most of the moderation and responses it will likely fill up with spam shortly.

Unless something changes in the near future, I will be shutting down as well as this forum, as it is no longer useful. Most of the data on WWC is referencing the legacy C# version of World Wind anyway.

  • World Wind Server v2.0.0 build scripts for Ubuntu 14.04

The github repository has been updated to add a script for world wind server v2.0.0

I have posted a set of v1.5.1 and v2.0.0 server build scripts for others to use. The scripts install Blue Marble and SRTM as a starting point. Feel free to fork this code on github.

Just an FYI for future viewers. The 2.0.0 version no longer has the ant task server.deployment. So these scripts will not work. It appears that NASA has moved to MapServer. It would be nice if they provided a bit more documentation about it. But I understand that they are on a limited budget. Getting MapServer up and running isn't bad but have a view of the configuration files even with out all the source imagery would be nice. I'll try to post what I discover heading forward.

These scripts were developed to fill a need to have a geo-data server for a lab that is not connected to the Internet.

I thinks the 2.0.0 version no longer has the ant task server.deployment

I had to rebuild a v1.5.1 server recently and noticed the traffic here.

I noticed that the ant task was missing as well for v2.0.0. It's likely that it was available in my build since I did the v1.5.1 build first. I don't use the v2.0.0 for my needs, but if someone wants to test it with a v1.5.1 followed by a v2.0.0, the ant task may still build and be useful. If anyone has the time or cares enough, send me a pull request on github.
