  • New USGS Topo Large Scale layer

I can't get the title layer to be displayed...
    https://services.nationalmap.gov/arc...rver/WmsServer
What is this layer supposed to display ? is it USA-only ?
I had no problem with the other USGS Topo Layer (except the relief absence on non-USA when zooming, as bruce mentioned on Github)
    https://github.com/NASAWorldWind/Wor...Java/issues/69
A pity over the Alps or Pyrenees :-)
    Thanks
    -frenchy

    ** Update **
With the live demo WMS example when adding the following link using '+', I can see layer items
but activating them gives white tiles...

    Hey Frenchy,

I get a 502 error when attempting to contact the server. I'm checking if we have a contact at National Map that can sort things out.

      Frenchy,

The USGS Topo Large is now working for me, I believe everything is back to normal. Let me know if you are still seeing problems.

Sorry, I still can't see anything but blank tiles... Is there a special image/format to use like image/gif or so ? Also at which altitude do you get the layer ?
The online demos dont show anything either, perhaps not updated.
        No big deal anyway.

I think IMHO there may be perhaps a mismatch with the following
          https://basemap.nationalmap.gov/arcg...rver/WmsServer
which is very nice and complete (raster + labels) over the USA
          Congrats to USGS/NationalMap

            Frenchy,

The Topo Large server has had some intermittent connectivity issues. The GetCapabilities request is working for me right now, but yesterday it was showing the 502 bad gateway/proxy error. It does not seem to be working for GetMap requests right now. We are in contact with the National Map team, hopefully, the stability of Top Large will resolve.

The resource you provided is very nice. It is not the same as the Topo Large, but a nice data source non the less!

Sorry for this issues on Topo Large, hopefully things clear up here in the near future.

Frenchy! It appears to be fixed! You will have to zoom in significantly to see the details, but it was working for me this morning and the National Map team. Let me know if you see any issues.

Yeah that works! Not a speedy one, but functional, also the zoom level must be close to the ground (eye altitude <5km) to see something, maybe a problem in the thresholds,
                Thanks to everyone anyway!

Thanks for the heads up about the layer Frenchy. You're right, you do have to be rather close in order for the map to appear. The National Map Team implemented Min/Max scale denominators for all of the layers, if you make a request outside of the denominators you get a blank image. If we adjust our threshold the coarser tile sets would appear blank. Again, thanks for the heads up!

I am trying the layers for the National Map and for the the topo layers and they disappear (turns white) around 1.5km altitude as you zoom down. Makes it impossible to use them. Anyone know how to fix that? Yes there are performance issues with their downloads also but I am worried about usability of the topo layers.

I tried this url for large topo and having issues with white tiles. Seems the National Map WMS is very problematic. I wonder why and when USGS will make it more reliable?

I am still having an issue and have been able to repeat it with Google Earth so WWJ is not the problem. I am working with USGS now to help resolve the issue. The servers still seem slow serving out tiles though but the big issue for me is when I zoom below 1.5km the map tiles go white on google earth they are transparent probably because the white pixels are made transparent.

Okay I figured it out and let USGS know. Even Google Earth could not show these layers but MyUniPortal LLC Android Version can. I may only add Contours and Trails layers for now to help my users. I have some other things to do before I release it though.
