  • Modelling for a game from world wind

    Hi,

I use world wind for a ong time now, but recently I began to want to make my own island in a videogame (armed assault).

So I tried to get strm data to modified it (from teh french reuion island, est of malagasy).

I would like to reduce the elevation and the size of the island, but I arrive to do anything :(

Do you know somme tutorial and good software to modify a dem or something like that, and how to use the data of worldwind?

There are at least two ways to do so :
    • If you can read the .bil file in your application, you can apply a factor - say 0.5, to the elvation. Same as vertical exaggeration in WW but the other way. Same for the size, do it programmaticaly.
    • You can load the .bil file in an image editor (as raw data, 150x150, 16bits, dont remember the order though) and adjust the white level to a mid gray. Resize or compose together several tiles. You can then save as a grayscale image in whatever format is more convinient for you (16 or 8 bits). Note that you will probably not 'see' anything on screen since even the highest mountains on earth will only yield a dark gray in 16 bits. If you need to go 8 bits, then make sure the highest elevation is at the white level 255.
    I hope this makes sens

Some time ago, i used Roger Coudé Radio Mobile to fetch DEMs from various places... there sure are other softwares out there, but this one worked for me to build little 3D maps.

It is not exactly what I want to do. t am trying to import .bil or raw into a 3d software in order to modify the terrain. I heard that we can do it with maya, but I do not know how...

            Hello
You can use softwares as Bryce or Teeragen for such a purpose
My favorite is WCS and VNS, that allows to edit your terrain as you wish, and to apply ' Terrafectors' as they call to lines and polygons , to dig a lake for instance...
To download DTM for la Réunion Island, go to this website:

            Truly yours

            Bonjour
            http://seamless.usgs.gov/Website/Sea...mitright=179.5
Si vous avez besoin d'autres renseignements..
            Cordialement

              Hi,

              Firstly thanks for your answers.

I have tried the demo of WCS, but I did not arrive to import .adf or .bil data. Do you know if a tutorial exist or something else?

I have tried teragen and bryce too, but there is no decent displacement within.

Changing the world appear definitely hard...

              Thx
