  • Successful USGS Urban Cities

Note: A full list of all USGS Urban cities with worldwind:// links for easy viewing is available here!

I'm able to view quite a bit of Washington DC with the USGS Urban Area Ortho-Imagery maps, but other cities, such as New York City, don't show up (they download as just white images).

So I figured I'd start a thread where people can post which cities in the US they can successfully view with the Urban Area map checked. Someone on another thread said that Denver and Colorado Springs were good, so I added those. If you have any, please reply to this thread!

The official list is here. Note that the "for viewing only" maps won't appear, as World Wind tries to cache (which is forbidden by license restrictions).

Ahh very nice.. I wonder if the images from New Jersey could be integrated into WW. !1-foot! that would be remarkable.. we could tell what color shirts people were wearing

Omaha, NE isn't included in any of the USGS lists, although I can view much of the city in sub-1m resolution on GlobeXplorer. Since I am blocking Flash, I probably can't see GE's list of "Content Partners" so I might be able to figure out who provides the Omaha images:

"GlobeXplorer delivers imagery from the leading satellite and aerial image providers"

I am guessing that it's probably something other than USGS or it would be on WW?

              Thanks

Kinda funny, the white house is pixellated so you can't see it.

Aerial photos of Sea Island, Georgia are 3 inches per pixel. That's... invasion of privacy?

Sorry, we can't have political comments on this forum. I believe there's an actual federal law prohibiting it.

Even if there is no Law per se, NASA policy prohibits the use of NASA resources for political statements.

I'm getting the entire San Francisco Bay Area, which doesn't appear in the official list. Also the Palos Verdes area of Los Angeles, but nowhere else
