In the PlaceFinder dialog, the Virtual Earth geocoder tab's textbox should say "Keywords or address" so that it is clear that the user can type in addresses as well as keywords. Right now, the textbox implies that only keywords will work.

So is it possible, or recommended to install the RC2 version, and also have my own build of the latest code from SVN?

I do that, running my build from \bin\Debug in the source dir and the release from \Program Files\NASA\whatever. You just have to delete the NASA folder in %appdata% whenever you change which version you are running to make sure that your config files and cache are being read for the correct version.

Alternatively, you could figure out how to change the version number on your local copy of the code so that you build and the official install don't share user settings directories. This is why you can have 1.4 and 1.3 installed at the same time; the settings folders include the version number in their name.

Whenever 1.4 is official someone will probably update the version number in svn and then regular 1.4 settings could be there at the some time as 1.4.1 (or whatever) without crossing wires.

                OK,
Downloaded the RC2 build, installed it, and it doesn't even make it to a splash screen. Just says that it has encountered a problem, and wants to call Microsoft and tell them about it. RC1 was a little better I think. At least it would run. Now I'm downloading new DirectX stuff, hoping that that will get it going again. I doubt I get this working tonight...

I was wrong. Fresh install of DirectX, and I'm up and running....

The description portion of the KML Icons still don't show up. This was marked fix I think on the previous bug list. Apparently the description is supposed to be in a popup bubble, but it never displays for me. Any answers on this would be great...

Someone crossed it out on the old page, and bellow is the comment on the bug in JIRA. What does he mean? There needs to be some way to easily display the information in the description.

The description support is currently html only and opens popups linked to the icon. I will look at putting the description sections back in the Layer manager.

Use regular WW xml. It works fine.

Maybe that will work. We now have a data parser engine that records the radar data, and can publish it to a file on local host, so I can access it through a network link at http:\\127.0.0.1\tracks.KML, or *.CSV, or *.XML. I just have to tell the engine what to produce. I need it to refresh about ever 10 seconds though. Do you think it can handle pulling down 60 - 80 KB ever 10 seconds?
                          James

I tried the following in the Config/Earth directory. No luck. No placemarks showed up. It works as KML.

This might be an obvious question but...do you have a web server running on that local machine?...because it looks like something local is needed to serve your stuff to WW?

It's like a web server, but it just puts the information in a share memory location. You access it just like you are going to a local web server. I have it running right now, so I know it works....
