KML timestamp and/or timespan tags

I am looking for an alternative to Google Earth. I've seen on this forum lots of talk about KML and KMZ import capability. Does the KML support for WW support the timestamp and timespan KML tags? Or does the WW XML format have similar tags?

WW Time Widget

So I saw this post from 2008, but has there been any development in this area? I too would like to incorporate a KML timespan to animate through file points in time.
