Cool, I did the samething a while back with a shapefile I got from National Geophysical Data Center. Its denser but I was never able to figure out how to label it. I probably still have it around here somewhere.

Yes...very cool. If you wish it, you can include in this addon the free
Declimag software. The accuracy is very good and it use two models
for the calculation.

Thanks, hermetica. I'll include the Declimag program. There's no English version, I assume. It's pretty self-explanatory, anyway. I like your Magnetic Pole Addon.

There are a half-dozen or so other paramaters that could be added, but I'd like to know what's of interest: Total Intensity, Horizontal Intensity, Vertical Component, Inclination... The image maps aren't too hard to create.

I can add more contours, but to get the coloring and labeling they have to be generated individually. I guess the finer contours could do without labels.

I also have a problem on my computer with some contours vanishing when the point of view is near the equator. Do any of you see this, or is it specific to my configuration?

Awesome! I'll have to show this to some teachers, I'm sure they'll love it.

Yes me also, certain lines disappear when I zoome on the level from the
equator. I tested with BMNG deactivated, same problem . I do not know the
reason of it...

I think the Vertical Component and Inclination would be very interesting....

I updated the addon to include inclination and some intensity maps. I also added hermetica's declination calculator, thanks.

I tested your last version. It's very cool.... Great work.....

(it is necessary that I modify the Magnetic-Pole add-on in order to change the color
of the lines and the icons. I think that who the yellow will be better visible if one wants
to use the two add-ons simultaneously).

March,27 2006.... It's ok now...

Does anyone here think it is possible to just make the measure tool output declination in magnetic instead of grid? That would be really handy since grid declinations don't do much good in navigating.

You would just need code that returned declination for a given latitude and longitude (not just plotting lines like this add-on does). Then you can do whatever you want with it. A floating compass that pointed to magnetic north from anywhere would be kind of neat.

PS: WW probably isn't intended to be a legitimate navigational aid.
