How do I take advantage of a LAN cache server? The java doc is a bit incomplete as if now on this issue.

WW cache packs may be out of reach with the actual WWJ early release 0.2 because of a different naming convention for files in the cache (1_1.dds instead of 0001_0001.dds).
I dont know if/how this issue will be addressed or when. But maybe this is beside your question about a LAN cache server ? |

Pretty easy to make a script or bat to rename the files, on windows it make take a while though.

What I would really like to do is download some of the cache packs an unpack them. Then use apache to serve the files over the LAN. We have a gigabit LAN service and this should dramatically improve the load times for the detailed layers. It seems like all I should have to do is modify the URL in the HTTPRetriever for the given layer, but I am not sure how to do this. Renaming the flies is not a big deal, but I might not what to invest the time if the convention is going to change and break compatibility.

Just change the server address to whatever your local server is. There is an example tile server written in python floating around somewhere, but all you have to do is take the dataset/row/level/col numbers from the request and return the right tile.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but could the servers just get mapped on the network and then have them deemed the World Wind cache in World Wind Settings? Like I said, I'm not entirely sure about what I'm talking about.
