I am, in no way, a computer wizard. So, when I have downloaded WW, v.1.2d, plus the UK download, and I try to use WW, I cannot "zoom" into the uk. All details are blurred. What do I need to do to make the prog work?
I'm using a AMD Athlon XP 2700+, at 2.17GHZ, with 512mb ram, and a Radeon AIW 9800 video card, with a 120gb hard drive (90gb + free). All place names are there, but no details, just very, very blurred. I have looked through the forums, but can't find a simple cure for my problem. All I want to do is zoom in, as the WW info page says ![]() |

You are not describing what do you see and what do you want to see.
If you are talking about the Landsat Mosaic (the default layer in WW), the resolution is about 15m per pixel. At such, you can identify very large buildings and roads, but not much more. A 30x30m house would show as 4 pixels, hardly enough to show any detail. There are no plans to improve the resolution at a global scale. One would need either a new public satellite with higher resolution instruments or to buy (global) data from one of the commercial satellite sources. Either choice would take a lot of money and time. Maybe EU can help out? In US, you have the benefit of the USGS airphoto dataset, which took more than 10 years and a very large treasure to produce. Before requesting more, keep in mind that before the Global Mosaic was produced (April 2004), the highest resolution global image of the earth was the Blue Marble, the base layer included in WorldWind. The Landsat WMS Global Mosaic provides 3600 times more data and multiple color representations (IR or Visual). The simple fact that these datasets (SRTM included) are available (free), and integrated so nicely by WorldWind is exceptional! As far as "blur" in Landsat images, there are some areas where two scenes overlap and one of them is a bit off. This generates a ghost image , or just a blur when the shift is small. London is a "bad" example of this problem. I am working on a better version of the WMS Global Mosaic, and I hope this issue will be solved. It will take a few months, and if all goes well, it will replace the current one in WW as soon as it is ready. B) Cheers, Lucian Quote:

I forgot to mention that a few countries, UK included, have an equivalent
government run airphoto program. If I remeber right, you can buy a very large Atlas of UK from the air that contains prints of all those pictures. There might even be a WMS server that offers that online, and then it would be trivial to use it in WW. Lucian
