Default Space Navigator Plugin

Using the SDK documentation, I have made a small plugin to use the 3DConnexion's Space Navigator (and maybe other devices from them too) to control WoldWind's Camera. Tested with 1.4RC5.

How to use the plugin?

Download the .cs file and copy it to your NASA\World Wind 1.4\Plugins\ directory. Plug the navigator (make sure the blue glow is there), launch WorldWind 1.4 and load the plugin (SpaceNavigator). Then you can control the camera with the Navigator.

Todo

At the moment, the control is not exactly great but it is a start: at least the raw data from the SpaceNavigator is obtained and its conversion to something usable (if not perfect) for WorldWind is done.

Nice. Wish I had a Space Navigator to try this with.

After reading Bull's blog entry about this I'm curious, might this be something for my school to look at, for teachers to use in classes?

I would say only if you have money that you need to spend. Unless all your teachers are hard-core WW nerds they probably won't do any better with the space navigator than with a regular mouse.

A much better bang for a school's buck is an old USB Kensington trackball for the kids.

I would agree with Withak. Chad gave the 3DX connection people my name and I got one as a freebee. I have been checking it out.
I think it is usefull if you are using it as a lecture but it takes a bit of a learning curve so I would have the students use a normal mouse.

If you want to try one out. e-mail ziva_nissan@3dconnexion.com
they want to expand into the schools so they may send you or one of your teachers one to try it out.

Ziva had asked if I knew any ways to get the SN's into schools.. To be honest I don't really know a good way.. other than letting schools know who to contact or vice versa.
