Hi all,

First of all, Worldwind is great! it's Fantastic to see something to good, that must cost so much to make, being made not only available to the public, but for FREE! It's just like the internet used to be :)

My question is... what is the legal status of images made with Worldwind? I would like to use them in Wikipedia as a sort of 3D pseudo map of various cities.

Unfortunately, although Wikipedia itself is non-commercial, we can not use "free for non-commercial use" images. Wikipedia allows its content to be sold by third parties, and as such images need to be, in general, public domain. (There are other ways around it, but public domain is the easiest license)

I have been told works of the US Government are all public domain, and I am hoping this applies to Worldwind images as well!

Blue Marble, Landsat, USGS, and even the Mars images are all public domain and can be used freely for whatever purpose.

Almost (if not all) of the content WW uses is public domain.
