Edit: This post will hopefully soon be outdated (although I fear it will be replaced by another hopefully much shorter post) Please see the full version install pinned in the General forum, it may solve your installation woes.

-------------------------

Old stuff here:

I'm trying to gather together all the reports of problems installing and what was done to fix it.

If you can load WorldWind and see the blue marble then this topic is not for you.

When I run setup.exe I get this error.

1608

1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance.
Return code -2147024894

Running the ISScript8.msi may bypass this.

Please see : http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108440

1607

Error -1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Runtime

Please see : http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108340

And : http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158

1628

It is suspected that many of the 1628 errors were a result of people trying to patch an already patched copy. The download on the main page is the latest and doesn't need a patch.

If this is not you, please see : http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158

MD5 Checksums

I used the command line tool downloaded from : http://www.md5summer.org

1.2c

Some of these errors probably come about as someone is trying to update an already updated WW.

They may have downloaded in the last few weeks, and not knowing the version.. tried to apply the patch.

I still get the 1608 error. A while ago I had a 1607 error, but it went away. I've tried every possible solution on the the support pages, with no changes.

Most of my other installshield installers work fine, except some return a 1607.

I hope NASA moves away from InstallShield, it's the most bloated and buggy installer engine ever created. Or at least provide a simple ZIP file for the people that can't get it working.

The next version will probably use Nullsoft's install system

I have been trying several times to install the last version without success on XP. I had 2Gb of disk space.

The install tells me to retry - which I have done without success.

What can I do?

Are you trying to install the 1.2d version? If not, download that and install that.

I get no errors, but clicking "Install" in the 1.2d update does nada. Click click click.... nothing. I am running WinXP, and have WorldWind installed to F:\Applications\NASA\Worldwind\ rather than C:\Program Files\NASA\ etc. Might that be the problem?

Which update? Did you try the "full" install linked at the very top of this post?
