Nice post!

I HAVE to add Gaia to the list. I've spent a lot of time looking for a good (and free!) WMS browser and Gaia is by far the best I've found (so far!)

I came across it awhile ago searching for a way to make tiles myself.
Here is another one, but I liked the Castle app better.

Another very useful program. I downloaded it and have been checking it out.
I think I might like it better than Irfanview.
Very Cool...Thanks!

I know I must have some more good ones. I will dig around my drive today, and
hopefully find some more.

Yeah, that's a nice one. Kind of buggy, though, in my experience. I use it for dabbling with the WW source, quite a futile effort on my part.

Having problems? Make sure you have Managed DirectX and .NET Framework.
Then check the Video Card Compatibility List

heh, some things muuuuch simplier to do in Linux (or using Linux tools). using convert from ImageMagick[.org] creating (four) tiles from one (512x512) image is done with just one commang
convert -crop 256x256 img.jpg img.jpg
