In Google Earth the roads show up as an overlay on top of the global terrain. You can search for addresses. If the address if found, the program will do a 'fly by' to the searched address.. It's simplified as well. If you type in 'London', it will fly to London, England.

The road displays are great, since you can view the visible terrain and the roads. It also allows you to 'bookmark' locations on the map. Latitude, longitude and altitude show up as a 'status' bar. Buildings in some large cities in the U.S. also appear in 3D.

Don't get me wrong, World Wind is still my favorite. There are plenty of things I don't like about Google Earth, such as not being able to switch between different aerial and satellite imagery. There isn't a plugin system. There is no weather overlay such as the one in World Wind.

I'm glad that these types of programs are emerging. I'm glad that NASA and Google are the ones that are creating them.

Google Earth has a better looking atmosphere. I'm sure these things are being worked on.

If you download the Sky and fog plugins for WW 1.3.2 alpha/beta (I know that may be Greek to half of you, half of it is Greek), you'll find WW has a much friendlier atmosphere.
But when comparing, we must remember: WINK, Worldwind Is Not Keyhole (or Google Earth, but WIGE doesn't sound as great).
That aside, these things are being worked on (sky and fog, for example). Wether it's community or official, World Wind is constantly expanding. The awesome weather plugin mentioned that I've been playing with recently downloads (almost)real-time weather data like you see on the news. Hurricane Dennis was lots of fun to watch.
The problem is a lot of data costs money, and WW is free. Stuff that costs money doesn't mesh well with free stuff. So many features are being worked on, be on the lookout for more great stuff.
Address lookup? The WW geocoder (http://www.worldwindcentral.com/geocoder/) is broken right now, but when it's back up, it'll be able to give you a WW link. Buildings? A gimmick. What are buildings when you can have lions and teapots? The favorites plugin (again for 1.3.2alpha/beta) gives a favorites menu in WW.

So anyway, I know you weren't complaining, I'm just pointing out that WW has an awesome future visible. I can't wait.

I prefer the position info showing up over the image, personally.

WW will also fly to search results. Haven't seen how GE does it though.

And overlaying layers, I guess that's possible. Depends what Chris has in store for 1.4.

And you can also do bookmarks in WW, although the system is a bit crude. Again, being worked on.
