Javier, I just downloaded, unzipped, and attempted to load the most recent version of your software. I got a error "invalid parameter used" and would not load the GPStracker. Re-downloaded, unzipped, and made another attempt. Got same error.

Using World wind version 1.3.3.29687

Sorry
Hi,

Do you have a more detailed error message?
Thanks, Javier

Sorry, that was all the error box said. The following is what the box said...

---------------------------
GPSTracker (V01R11) plugin failed to load.
---------------------------
The error was:

Invalid parameter used.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

That was it.

Javier, I have a "Magellan Gold" unit that connects up with my Magellan software through the serial port without problem. I can't, however, seem to get your plugin to find my GPS. It doesn't find it even with auto detect. Do you have any suggestions? I appreciate your efforts and am happy to find this useful plugin here. Thank you in advance.

Hello,
I wanted to let you know that I added a GPS tracker class to the WorldWind project that reads GPS information from any NMEA serial GPS device.
Once activated, through a new button in the toolbar (little gps satellite), your world view will lock into your current latitude and longitude.
I have a private pilot license, and it's really beautiful to fly around and see the 3D map move along with you.
What I do is, prior to flying, I run WorldWind on my laptop at home (connected to the internet) and move around to the places I'm going to go. This way I download the hires maps that I need. Then I just go flying with the laptop and a serial gps receiver.
Anyway, I was just wondering if this is of any interest. If it is, how should I submit my source code changes?

I'm including a some Snapshots.

[attachmentid=1201]

Thank you very much,
Javier Santoro.

Hello,

Are you using WorldWind Version 1.3.3.1 (the latest)?
I believe the ‘RemoveToolsMenuButton’ function is only available from version 1.3.3.1

Please make sure you are running version 1.3.3.1 and let me know if you still get this error.

Thanks, Javier

Hi,

Can you find out your device serial port settings (Port Number, Baud rate, Data bits, Parity and Stop bits), from your Magellan Software? Let me know what they are.
You could manually enter them into GPSTracker.
Also, make sure that your device is setup to send the GPRMC and GPGGA messages.
You could also use a program like HyperTerminal (it comes with windows) to trace the NMEA messages coming from your device. If you are able to do this you could send me a copy of the messages HyperTerminal is getting from your device.

Let me know what happens,
Thanks
Javier

Javier,
Thanks on the TCP/IP socket reply, downloaded update today and it works like a charm.
I have noticed an increasing latency in track reports with both versions . Initially on connect, the GPS update is accurate, but as time goes by, they get latent, sometimes up to 5 minutes with three TCP tracks. Producing a system interupt such as simply moving the mouse around or pressing an unreferenced key (keyboard <ENTER>)and holding it allows the logging (icon indication) to catch back up. Also, setting focus off of World Wind and bringing it back, or selecting a different render priority brings it immediately back to the current update, they then begin to fall behind again. This occurs with TCP and COM port connections, haven't attempted UDP.
This fallback is worse when idle/viewing, the more active the World Wind user is (Zooming/Panning) the lesser the problem (seems). Can a Plugin throw a Thread Interupt at World Wind to squeeze it's updates in more efficiently?
Hi

Please update to version V02R00 it should fix the 'latency' issue.
Let me know if it works for you.
Thanks,
Javier

Please goto:
http://www.worldwindcentral.com/wiki/Add-o...er_%28plugin%29
to get the latest version of the GPSTracker plugin and to read the release notes.

Note that since Version V01R09 it's possible to update GPSTracker from the Update tab in the GPSTracker Configuration window.

Please note that I strongly recommend updating to version V02R00

Latest version is V02R00:

Fixes:
1. There should be no delay between getting the NMEA data from any of the sources and displaying the icon. Before there was a delay that would get longer over time. The icons should be displayed on 'real' real time. As an example, when playing back from a file and selecting a playback speed of more than x1 it will really play back at the selected speed.

Hi again Javier,
Thank you for your speedy response. This is what I have to work with.
Both the Hyper Terminal and the Magellan Software can locate the GPS on Com1
Settings are 19200baud 8 N 1
I put these settings into GPSTracker manually but, it still didn't see the device.

No problems with Magellan either direction.

Hyper Terminal sends us this information:

$GPGLL,4838.79,N,12327.15,W
$GPVTG,000,T,342,M,00.0,N,00.0,K

The one thing I am curious about is something you had said.
Quote: Also, make sure that your device is setup to send the GPRMC and GPGGA messages. Javier, I am not sure what these two items are or how to find out. Do you think it would be in the manual for Magellan? I will check this in the mean time. I could find no reference to GPRMC or GPGGA in the settings on the device itself.

Also, I am not familiar on how to choose either UDP or TCP ports so do you think that this could be a problem?

Thank you for your patience.
