Cache files

I am really new to the world wind program. I had gone and downloaded a number of the cache pacs (10 gigs worth).
I opened the worldwind.exe.config file and changed my cache size to 15 gigs. I then changed the images.xml expiry time to 30 days.
Eventually these files are going to delete themselves no matter what I change these to.
How do I avoid loosing all these cache pacs I had downloaded.
If they are going to delete themselves after a given amount of time what is the real value of downloading them and putting them into your cache file?
IT would be real sad to loose 10 gigs of cache pacs.
What is the downside to increasing the time frame and the amount of cache stored?
If I am going to eventually loose the cache should I even bother downloading these cache pacs?
How are the older cache files replaced by updated cache files and does my changing the time frame in the images.xml effect that?
Finally, If I went away for a month then came back, would all the cache be gone?

The images.xml setting won't cause the files to be deleted, it'll just mean World Wind will check for an updated tile.
