Default Rendering user facing objects

I'm working on drawing some shapes that are designed to always face the user. I'm having some issues with rotation, and I'm wondering if my approach is even correct. Basically, before I render the object, I try to rotate it so it is in the same direction as the forward vector? Is this correct? Or is there a better way to do this?

Note I cannot use the UserFacingIcon here because I am rendering custom shapes for markers and the objects are MarkerShapes (I guess I could create a UserFacingIcon that implements MarkerShape, but I'd prefer not to because then I need to deal with mixing the IconRenderer and the MarkerRenderer).

thanks,
Jeff
