Thumbs down

Hello!

At the moment the Landsat7 servers are down due to the massive public interest in the World Wind project. Until a bigger, greater and better solution is provided I am suggesting that we just zip up the data we already have in our caches and offer it here. Please add your cache or mirror to this thread and I will add it to this first post soon, too.

Download the 1.2c patch before using these cache data files: Official Patch here (5mb)

*(The version now on the NASA site and the twobeds.com mirror is 1.2c. Go to Help > About, and if you see version numbers 1.2.1734 then this is version 1.2c. The next update will correct the showing of this in the launch screen and the About page. If you experience the "1628" Installshield errorcode when downloading the patch it is because you have 1.2c already. If you are positive this is not the case then please file a bug report in the relevant forum section

How to use:
Firstly, the default WW cache size is 2Gb - it will delete files if the cache directory is over 2Gb. Therefore, you will need to edit C:\Program Files\NASA\World Wind v1.2\Configuration\WorldWindParameters.x ml - use notepad or any text editor.

Find <CacheSizeMegabytes>2000</CacheSizeMegabytes> and increase the size to whatever you see fit. 6000 or so, as there's ~5Gb of cache data.

Now - where to unzip. WW stores all its data in C:\Program Files\NASA\World Wind v1.2\cache. Most files contain the cache folder and the correct hierarcy, so simply unzip and drag the cache folder directly into \World Wind v1.2\.

Within the cache folder are Earth, TerrainTiles and WMS Browser folders. Most of the data below belongs in C:\Program Files\NASA\World Wind v1.2\Cache\Earth\High-Resolution Terrain Mapped Imagery.

But basically, it's pretty obvious where everything goes. Everything is JPL Global Landsat Mosaic (Visible Bands - Panshapened) unless otherwise stated.

If you get stuck, use the self-installing NASA caches, or post a hierarchial view of what you've downloaded so we can show you. We're not robots, so we can't remember exactly which files start where and what they contain.

Also, remember that they don't contain all the levels for all areas they cover, so you will still get the can't connect to server issue if you browse outside of the covered area.

Hope that helps a little....so without further ado, below are the files. If you find any links, PM me (TheBeansprout).

NASA has put up some cache data files (even with installer)!

Ouch.. watching WGET grab the zip files..

Another mirror:

http://alteviltech.com/LandSat7/

I can put them up there as people post. Will give us 2 mirrors for now at least.

I'll create a "propper" web page later.

Ok I have my mirror up:
http://www.gulfcoastcc.com/nasa/

Rember it'll be inactive during the workday between 7:30am and 6pm Central Time when my users need the bandwidth - note that if you have a download going during the cutoff time it'll continue just fine, I'm only preventing new downloads from starting after 7:30.

If anyone has a .zip of any cache files they want to upload let me know (via PM) and I'll send you a ftp login. Otherwise I'll just be wgetting the other links posted here.

Hey, I felt like such a leech, I felt like I had to do something. I don't know whats going to happen, but I hosted the 3 zip files on my personal web space at my University. It might or might not be agianst policy, so if they suddenly go offline, hope I don't get expelled. (I'm kinda nervious, so no slamming them or anything...)

LandSat Dataset 1

LandSat Dataset 2

LandSat Dataset 3

Oh, and some NASA person, please confirm that this distrubution is acceptable according to the copywright on the works please.

Ok, I created what I hope is a "default" index page for the mirror sites.

http://www.alteviltech.com/LandSat7/

It should help remove confusion as to what is in what zip file. I have not yet copied the Cache01 file yet.

Just an idea... but maybe the first poster should edit the posting to put the mirrors list there. Also.. we shouldn't go renaming files.. would really hate to DL the same thing two or three times because the file name was changed. (Hence the file size and description)

index.txt = index.html if you want to use this template.

As long as we keep the page up to date.

Yea, good thing for unlimited bandwith B) I did a gig yesterday alone..

Ok.. the cache file mirror page looks good. A few things to everyone though.

TheBeanSprout could you move or copy deckard1 into the nasa folder?

http://www.twobeds.com/nasa/
http://www.twobeds.com/deckard1.zip

Kiriai this actually may very well be acceptable use. Though your university may be different then mine. My university wouldn't have any problems hosting these files. (Wish I was enrolled this semester, I'd help out with a mirror)

mixmastermike you have your data duplicated. landsatdata1 = deckard1 etc.

Tomservo could you perhaps restructure your mirror page to look like deckards first post?

Deckard, could you update your first post?

I just put up another mirror on my server, it's unlimited bandwidth on a fast pipe, so it should be fine, if the friend who owns the server complains about it I will take it down, but he shouldn't have a problem with it.

http://www.christian-music.org/WorldWind/

I'll try and update it once a day with all the new cache files.
