Default WW(J) and Python - some questions

Hi,
I posted this in the general (community) forum, but that place appears to be deserted, so I'm double-posting it here.

I'm a student looking to do a project using WW - preferably WWJ (this post assumes WWJ, but that's not set in stone). I'm awful at OO programming (including Java and C#), but passably decent with scripting languages (mostly PHP, a little Perl, but recently a little Python), and I lack the time to refine my OO skills for this project.

I'm aware that it's possible to use Python to interface through an API with WWJ, but there seems to be no documentation or anything specific to this effect beyond general "it can be done" type things.
I've spent the last two hours searching the wiki and this forum and am not really any the wiser for it, with the most The closest I can get is 2 year old things: http://forum.worldwindcentral.com/sh...ghlight=python - http://www.perrygeo.net/wordpress/?p=59 and http://forum.worldwindcentral.com/sh...ghlight=python with the WWJ website itself saying "API documentation will be made available later."

I haven't finalised my project's goals because I need to figure out where I can go with WW(J). The current line of thinking is to create something that lets WW(J) be used to download raster and maybe vector data too - i.e., I'd need to place with the interface a little.
So I have the following questions:

a) How do I start doing this. As in, how do I use Python with WWJ.
b) Where would I find a list of functions accessable via the API? By trawling through the Java?
c) Have I managed to miss a all revealing forum thread or help page somewhere on this matter? Or is there some resource out there along a similar vein that may help me.

I can probably manage a little Java/C# if I absolutely have to, but best kept to a minimum. ;-)

Thanks for any help.
