I've got AMD Athlon 1GHz, 256 MB, WinXP Pro SP2, RivaTNT2 32MB, latest .NET (1.1) and DirectX (9c)
I get a 'World Wind Fatal Error' on startup saying

'Unable to locate compatible graphics adapter. Make sure you are running the latest version of DirectX.'

Any ideas?

That video card will work with World Wind. Firstly update the drivers if you can find any newer ones, then:

tried to do that but didn't work - I think the drivers are half a year old, so that should be fine since the graphics card is some years old

I did that but I think nothing was installed (since I had DirectX 9c already)

I read.

Well, it still doesn't work. I ran dxDiag by the way, no problems there. I've got a crapy old monitor, maybe that's the problem. Does WorldWind try to switch to some higher resolution with a high refresh rate or something?

Thanks for further suggestions

WW doesn't switch resolutions by default. So I don't think that is your problem.

I would see if you can't find a better driver. A lot of the time newer versions of DX break older drivers.

I had the same problem develop after installing the latest ATI video drivers for my Radeon 9600. World Wind worked fine before that. I haven't found any problems with other applications since installing the new drivers.

Hmmm... I got it to work by selecting "Default Single Display", which I thought was already the selection. That changed my resolution to 1024x768 and World Wind loaded and ran. I then switched the resolution back to the original 1152x864 and World Wind was still happy. Problem solved.

ok, managed to install the latest ForceWare drivers from NVIDIA (by removing the old ones first)

like the first time I started World Wind, after the splash screen showed up, the whole screen went blank for a short time (that's why I thought there might be a change of screen resolution) and then showed the error message. (Subsequent starts don't make the screen go blank any more.)

So I've got latest DirectX and latest video driver and it still doesn't work. DxDiag says everything's ok.

Any more ideas? Does anybody else have the same hardware configuration?

Have you tried everything that was talked about above? What video card do you have?
