Hello,
I used for testing and develop my converting script, the LINZ Data, a database with all points of New Zealand, in the GPX format by by Kiwi Geoff.

Because of the beauty of this Data, waypoints are described by their kind and like an atlas in the school the could be shown with an Icon, I thought the information should be published, that everbody could use them.

The points are not correctly at the position, where the icon is, the are taken from paper maps and the position is where the name of the point is, there could be a difference of few hundred metres.

The only problem with this Layers is World Wind, there will be shown only two layers if the Layers with whole New Zealand are used and only three with the smaller layers. I give no guarantee that World Wind work with this layers, because they will first let World Wind startup later (two minutes with two all-country layers) and second if more than 2 or 3 layers switched on, World Wind will show only white earth or no images except the icons. The layers are a benchmark for World Wind . I ask the developers of World Wind to not include this layers in a further version of World Wind because the size of the layers and the lack of ability to show more than 3 layers.

The icons for the waypoints are most taken from Corel Draw and some are invented by myself. If somebody finds better icons, feel free to replace them. The icons could be used also for other layers because the are used in atlas, too.

The Download Page:
LINZ DATA: New Zealand Layers, sorted by Land and point of interest

At the picture below, you will see the beach and wreck layer. I included for example the airport, ski, beach and wreck layer. Also I included the descripton of the waypoints by LINZ, pointdes.txt.

Hello,
I updated the Layers for World Wind 1.3, with the new directory structure. The Layers for World Wind 1.2 are still available.

I updated the Layers for World Wind 1.3.1, so the icon could be seen in the toolbar. The Layers for World Wind 1.2 are still available.

I've downloaded the NZ layers and have the icon on the toolbar and the png for
places of interest work OK on top of NLT7 tiles.

Is there anyway we can download the LINZ topo and orthophotos from the WMS
site in NZ to display your layers in worldwind on top of the free NZ data at
http://www.nztopoonline.linz.govt.nz:80/wmsconnector/

I "viewed" some LINZ data using the viewer at http://www.wmsviewer.com

Thanks for all your work.

hello aussiemac,
dinther suggested to make the orthofotos available, they must be tiled before you can use them for World Wind. At the moment the Linz Server is down, so I can't say which photo belongs to which coordinates.

thanks for your help.

I guess there has to be an easy way to convert data from nearly all wms servers
to worldwind tiles.
Perhaps someone will work this out.
I see some folks are getting french topos somehow and even converting keyhole data.
I haven't worked that out yet either.

Did you see this information, they have changed the coordinates system. It would takes time to make an converter for the coordinates, but for interested people there is a map for putting the images in the right context.

They have only a small portion of colour orthophotos and the black and white orthophotos are not georeferenced.

Maybe somebody ask them if they are interested to provide the data for World Wind.

I've sent an email to LINZ topo online asking for their help and cooperation.
Must be able to get them in the same way we can now get (whisper)
"go.........oog....le" maps and photo tiles.

thanks again
