Default WorldWind does not start

I have installed WW 1.4. The configuration was successful. I then started WW and a rectangular picture with the sun over a mountain ridge appeared. But this was it: even after 10 minutes the ww globe had not shown up. Strangely in the process table - ctrl, alt, del - there was ww, but the cpu usage was 0!

System: Windows xp sp 3 on an Intel DH67BL board.

Help to get WW running would be really appreciated.

Default

Addendum which perhaps helps the knowledgeable ones:

After the start there is as described the small windows with sun and mountains. In my first post I forgot mentioning that while the mouse pointer is within this window the normal egg timer appears. It disappears when the pointer is moved to a location outside this window.
