yea, there are quite a few problems with elevation. check out this pic of Niagra Falls area, the rapids are really treacherous.

SRTM has accuracy limitations:
30m x-y posting in US 90m x-y posting in the rest of the world and 15m z accuracy. See the comparison images below. The finer DEM was collected using the same technology as the SRTM but from aircraft i.e. lower altitude and hence more detail, but also slower and more expensive. http://www.apogee.com.au/images/imag...ermap/srtm.jpg http://www.apogee.com.au/images/imag...termap/dsm.jpg
