DYNAGIS Boundaries AddOn for World Wind 1.3 - Ver.1.0



This AddOn includes a complete set of all national AND administrative boundaries as well as labels for all 249 countries and all 2605 administrative areas. The countries boundaries are included in two different versions. The default version shows the boundaries without coastlines and a 2nd version shows the countries boundaries 'outlined' (coastlines included).

thanks 'hermetica'. its very hard to find (free/public) accurate boundary data (especially admin areas). i am pretty sure, that some of the admin borders are not up-to-date ( 'm_k' already reported mistakes about polish admin areas - thanks 'm_k' [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img] ). so if anyone discovers wrong admin borders, please report it and i will try to build ('step-by-step') a really up-to-date dataset out of it .....

Well, even the promotional Dynagis borders01.jpg demonstrates obsolete info, about Czechia and Slovakia. Cz now has about 14 provinces and Sk 8.

I must admit, that compiling such info worldwide, actual and reliable, is a very hard task.

And, it would be nice to have also the names/nomenclature of those 'parts': Cantons in Ch, Bundeslander in De, Avtonomnyje oblasti in Ru, Vyssie uzemne celky in Sk, Departements in Fr, States and Counties in Us, etc., both original reading and english translation/transcription. That would need tons of local collaborators [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img] .

Is it possible to access the raw data in DYNAGIS' boudaries data sets ?
Is there any program that can read them and export them in Excel for example ?

There is a tool for writing a .csv (Placename, Lat, Lon) out of a .wwp file (WorldWinds Placenames Format).
But what do you mean by "access the raw data of the boundaries"? extracting all edges (Lat, Lon) of the polygons, or what ?

That would truly be the mother of all spreadsheets. Keep in mind that there are an enormous number of points in these linepath datasets and they are not necessarily structured in nice, contiguous strings.

Thank you mazop for your reply.
I have found the .wwp files in the ./addon/earth/dynagisboudaries directory
and while opening them with WordPad I can't see but the place names : the positions are not obvious. My aim is to extract those position and be able to export them to Excel for example. Also if I can find the specification for that wwp format then I can develop a progrm with my own.
As for the boudaries (I found for them the .idx and .pkg files in the directory), yes I want
all the edges' positions of all the polygons.. and I do'nt care if they can't be exported in a non-contiguous way as pangloss claimed.
Can you tell me about a possible tool ?

I am not sure about if this is really what you expect. But anyway, here is a "boundary-dump file" processed from the boundary-vectors i have used to create the .pkg/.idx files for WW.....(formated per line/Country like: Countryname, Lat, Lon, Lat, Lon, Lat, Lon,......)

I dont know of any tool that creates such .csv files out of WW's .pkg/.idx files....sorry. The only tool i know works in the opposite direction. It creates .pkg/.idx files from OziExplorers .plt files:
