The NASA World Wind SDK is into version 0.6 now. You can get nightly builds every day. See this thread: http://forum.worldwindcentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=21110 |

| TomServo | All the USGS layers come from Terraserver, not the NASA servers. That is just a redirect from the NASA servers to the terraserver. |

Here are just two things WWJ could do regarding server overload. 1) Change the download format from .dds to .jpg. WW.net has done this and the user has the option of saving it as .jpg or converting and saving it as .dds. For the Digital layer (USGSDigitalOrtho) tile size: ~50 kb for .jpg - - over 200KB for .dds 2) lo resolution tiles required before hi resolution will display If a person has no need for the lo res tiles the server should not be tied up downloading those tiles. As WWJ has the Digital layer now levels 0, 1, and 2 will never be displayed but they will be downloaded before the hi res can be displayed. "Removing WWJ's use of the WW.net servers ..." ??? |

| bull | Thanks Tag and Patrick. |

| tag | One of the goals of the WWJ server work is to remove the sharing and resulting overload of these servers by WWJ and WW.net. So we are not encouraging or supporting any migration of WW.net to the new servers until there are mirrored server sites. Removing WWJ's use of the WW.net servers will result in performance increases for both clients. |

| TomServo | Was wondering that as well, goes against the information I have. |

| coloradokid | In this statement "We no longer provide development for WW.net." What does this statement mean for .net? Who is we? |

| patmurris | As i understand, the advantage with dds is fast loading from disk to the gpu for better interactivity (needs less cpu processing then jpegs for instance). However, the WMS server should be able to provide other images formats, so it should be no problem for WW.net to tap into it, at least to see how it compares. |

| bull | so it will be slower and use more bandwidth? Wha about the quality? Are the dds tiles using less compression hence giving better quality, or is it more of a technical issue? |

From my experience going the other way, pulling data from the WW.net server into WWJ, there should only be a few code changes to be able to get data from the WWJ server into WW.net. It is basically the same data except served in the .dds format. To answer this question since the .dds format is bigger: The tile sizes are bigger, Bigger, BIGGER! |
