View Full Version : installshield wizard was interrupted..

I've tried to install worldwind 4 times now. Every time, after it appears to be installing everthing, when it gets to the "Registering product" part, it brings up a window and says "The wizard was interrupted before World Wind could be completely installed.

The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again.

Click finish to exit the wizard."

So, because it's my only option, I click finish.

I've disabled norton's auto protect, thinking that was the problem.

Anyone know what's going on?

I'm having the exact same problem. The Event Viewer has 3 log entries...

Product: ISScript -- Installation operation completed successfully.
Product: World Wind -- Installation operation completed successfully.
Product: World Wind -- Installation operation failed.

If you look for the install directory, everything is there up until it hits that error, then the installed removes everything.

I also have the same problem. This has happened to me once before with the newest version of cuteFTP but I could not fix it. Help would be appreciated.

I managed to cheat the installer by renaming the installation folder while the installer was in the "registering product" phase. This way the contents of the folder were left intact and the program works. This is a temporary solution until the installer gets fixed.

I tried to do this, but it told me that it couldn't change the name of the folder because it was in use.

Any other ideas?

I've never seen this happen before so I'm not sure what is causing it. What operation systems are you guys running on? That might help me narrow down some possibilities.

I too have tried downloading 4 different ways/separate times, 3 different nasa links.
(Sorry, its been over past two days, I only remember 1 opensource.arc.nasa.gov link, and 1 from eMule/ed2k p2p)
All times I've tried, Install failed. (4 times so far)

Two times for sure stated data1.cab was corrupt.

The other two, I'm not 100%. I believe one got most of the way, and then failed
at processing registry. The other, I don't remember at all now.

System details:
OS: Win2k SP4 w/ .NET framework 1.1, DX9c
MB: AN35N-Ultra (Nvidia nForce2 400)
CPU: AMD XP 2600+ (the 333fsb core, forget name(there is a 266 core))
RAM: 1gig PC2700(333mhz)
VIDEO: AGP 8x Radeon 9500 Pro (Cat. 4.9 drivers, not using new ATI Control Panel)
SOUND: Creative Labs 5.1
HDs:
Maxtor 80gb IDE (Don't remember exacts) Primary Master
Sony DRU-510A DVDRW - Primary Slave
TDK Velocity 50x16x32 CDRW - Secondary Master
Western Digital 20gig - Secondary slave

(extra info, not sure it will matter)
Linksys BEFSR81 v2 firmware 4.72 (yes, its old firmware, but it WORKS)
nVidia network card (part of MB)
Comcast as ISP (3mb/256kb)
Tried two cable modems (Surfboard 5100, and a 3100)

Sorry, this is all I could remember about the details of everything.
1. I've slept since then.
2. I'm at work.
3. See #1.
:)

I look forward to trying this program sometime as a hobbyist.
I've used keyhole.com earth view before. Nice, but I don't use it enough for the subscription fees.

I finally have a working copy (well, at least, it installed, I haven't tried the program yet)
Got home. Started downloading (again)
I did this the brute force way, with a tech twist. I downloaded a copy from almost every location, naming the file to show the basic link I used to download it from, and then I ran a md5 checksum on it.

I don't believe this to be a problem on my end, but believe it to be the NASA servers end, whether odd network stream corruption, or actual stored file corruption. (I'm not debating the fact that it -could- be on clients(me and others) end too though)

I used Winrar 3.2 to decompress, as it will show error log while uncompressing, and allow, when able, to 'keep' broken files.
All 3 except for the one that worked had broken files.

(Size listed is -not- the "Size on disk" category of Windows properties)

ftp_geo_arc_nasa_gov_worldwind-1_2.zip
md5 checksum: 9161c931d8327f2a855debc0e80579db
Size reported by Win2k: 254 MB (266,506,899 bytes)
!!(Odd: See how this was larger than others I downloaded???)!!

gtss_arc_nasa_gov_worldwind-1_2.zip
md5 checksum: d98fb0464601064d6cb1910d78714132
Size reported by Win2k: 253 MB (265,444,979 bytes)

opensource_arc_nasa_gov_worldwind-1_2.zip
md5 checksum: b21fc776e1020bca3bd67c844a21ffa4
Size reported by Win2k: 253 MB (265,444,979 bytes)

*>>--->>> ONE THAT WORKED FOR ME!!! <<---<<*
kiosk_arc_nasa_gov_8090_worldwind-1_2.zip
md5 checksum: 4347c135d50fa362e7f6cd944acd50c9
Size reported by Win2k: 253 MB (265,444,979 bytes)

Hope the Kiosk link works for you all too.

Marc,
try the kiosk link, let me (and everyone else) know if it worked.
If you're really bored, try the other links too and see if you got the same results I posted earlier. :)

I cannot test the theory that I may be able to d/l a non-corrupt version of World Wind because the mirrors appear to be offline...

However, the troubles began (with the 253mb file obtained by the aforementioned 'successful' kiosk mirror) by merely unzipping the file -- 2 or more critical files were corrupt right off the bat and could not be extracted. How can this be?!

I tried to work around this and install the program anyway, but that inevitably led to the errors, 1311 (data1.cab) and 1603.

Running into this difficulty, coupled with the great reviews of those experiencing success with this program, drives me to seek a viable solution!

Hmm. Perhaps its not where the file is stored at all then.
Perhaps data corruption is being put into the tcp stream on the nasa.gov end.

I wonder if, although NASA uses different server IPs, they are all located behind the same network pipe, and the pipe is causing troubles, throwing bad data into the mix.
(Not purposely of course!)

Paul Chan, any ideas?

Perhaps MD5 checksums? Windows users I think would have to download a little program to check, but it would solve the problem of data corruption.

JamminR

Llynix, from a previous post I made in this thread, I found a windows program that would get the md5 checksum of a file you fed to it.
kiosk_arc_nasa_gov_8090_worldwind-1_2.zip
md5 checksum: 4347c135d50fa362e7f6cd944acd50c9
Size reported by Win2k: 253 MB (265,444,979 bytes)

I have no idea if the sum was correct (compared to original), but it worked for me.
ALSO!! 1.2c is out now, so I don't know its sum. I downloaded the update patch to 1.2c and it worked fine. The sum above was for 1.2b.

Its been so long ago that I don't remember where I got it, but md5 programs are out there and freeware for Win32. Gotta love google. ;)

I'm hoping the latest version, the tweaking the admins have been doing, and all the other improvements have helped overall.

Thanks, but this installer is now quite outdated, as is this thread. This issue has probably been long resolved.
