View Full Version : System locks up

I used World Wind on my old 433, before I found the P2P Patch, while the servers were down, and the blue marble and WMS was great. And I have used World Wind at school, where it also works great.

Then I got a new computer, an HP Pavilion a610n - AMD Athlon 3000+, 512MB, Onboard S3 UniChrome AGP video /w 64MB shared.

Whenever I zoom in too far, or rotate the globe to see terrain at all, the system locks up so hard I have to reboot. I threw in an ATI All-in-one, and it did the same thing, although one time it coughed up a BSoD instead:

STOP: 0x0000007F (0X00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Then I installed the original Windows XP that came with the computer (as opposed to the 2000 that I run), and the S3 still froze hard, and the ATI caused polygons to appear randomly so bad that I couldn't see anything.

The BSoD makes me think it is a non-video card related hardware problem, but I am not a hardware person, I am a VB6 programmer. :)

Thanks very much for any suggestions.

It is probably a video card issue.
The S3 UniChrome AGP does not work, I have the same board.
(Except if you find a real old WW, pre 1.2c, the one without buttons)!
Which ATI All-in-one?

A user mode program like this can not crash your computer _directly_.

It must be your video driver or some other hardware layer interface (video driver).

I'm sure that's a great comfort to him. ;)

lol

Well, I did try two separate OSs, and they both fail, so I figure that Managed DirectX simply doesn't like HPs. Or something like that.
