Hello terrain application developers, hobbyists, artists, and friends. I am
pleased to invite you all to the launch of a new terrain-related discussion
group. In cooperation with the Middle Earth DEM Project and the CG Arts
organization, I have helped to create a website dedicated to discussion of
the greater terrain modeling industry and craft. I hope you will join us
there and contribute your expertise and experience for the betterment of
all.
http://terrain.cg-arts.org/forum/
We will be discussing a broad range of subject matter, from procedural
terrain modeling and rendering to georeferencing, global terrain generation
and visualization issues, to networked application issues, and much more.
Rather than dealing with specific applications and related techniques, the
community will be focused more on broad theory and the future of terrain
modeling and visualization in general. Applications like World Builder,
Terragen, Geocontrol, Global Mapper, and the like will be discussed, but the
goal is to identify and help solve the remaining major issues of the terrain
industry, rather than to discuss techniques of specific applications or
critique work created in any particular program.
Come and share your ideas and expertise with other industry veterans,
developers, and hobbyists from around the world. The Terrain Summit is
all-inclusive and we welcome everyone to contribute!
Please pass this invitation along to anyone who you feel would be
interested. We have personally invited as many people as we could think of
and whose email addresses we had access to, but there are many that will be
missed. I also encourage you to post an announcement on any related mailing
lists or forums you may contribute to, if you feel comfortable doing so.
We would love to have input from anyone in the field, professional or
amateur, developer or artist. The broader our community is, the better it
will be.
Warm regards,
Oshyan Greene - Terrain Summit Administrator
