I was wondering...
If satellites move faster, they manage to grab a higer altitude, right?
Was that why usually satellites have to orbit the earth several times before escaping its gravitational pull?

I think the whole point of satellites is that they don't escape the earth's gravity. :)

But yes, if you want to move to a higher orbit then one way to do that is to speed up.

Here's a page that talks about the relationship between orbiatl speed and altitude:

I don't think so, because relative to the sun isn't Pluto in a higher orbit than the earth but it takes about 248 earth years to complete one orbit. Also, according to Wikipedia, the earth's average orbital velocity is 29.783 km/s whereas Pluto's is 6.112 km/s.

Mass matters too, in addition to the shape of the ellipse.

Orbital mechanics is a pretty cool field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohmann_transfer_orbit)

More than you ever wanted to know about planetary orbits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_orbit)

Have any of you tried the new version of Mashi's Satellite tracker Plugin? (http://www.mashiharu.com/). It's not working for me, i don't know why. Could it be a Problem with .NET 2.0?

I don't think, Mass matters. But for sure Jim is right: objects in far Orbits move slower than in close orbits.

but withak is right too:
if you want to move to a higher orbit then one way to do that is to speed up.
But when you reach the higher Orbit, you have to slow down again to stay in that Orbit.

Yep I've tryed that sat plug-in, it works fine in punt but not worldwind, I haven't checked the code yet maybe it's something simple.

I don't get Punt to work unfortunately. :(
hopefully someone will look into it and make it work.

there seems to be a problem with the Data or the data path. I'm getting errors like:

---------------------------

---------------------------
Failed to read TLE from ISS (ZARYA)
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

am i the only one to think, we're missing a great plugin if we don't get it to work? Usually people can't wait to see things like a satellite tracker.
I would love to help more with these things, only i have no idea how plugins work, so i can only post the errors and hope for people to solve them :(
