View Full Version : HowTo on creating a cache?

Is there a howto on creating a cache (for download)? There wasn't any obvious post so far (aside from the obvious of just viewing a certain area after initial start of WW and then zipping the cache directory).

Ie what I want to do: somehow mark an area to be "extracted" from the application cache so it can a separate "cache download". And just that part. After writing this it looks like a feature request...

That's a really good question. I'd love to cache some areas, but I'm not about to sit there for hours and do it manually :).

I beleive the 0-6 folders are created by WW. So this would be how you would do it.

1) Backup your cache
2) Delete folders 0-6
3) Start WW
4) Set your view where you want to get images from
5) Zoom in to get each level of imagery in LandSat
6) After getting all the images from zooming in, close WW
7) Zip up the folders 0-6 they will just have what you want on it

Granted these steps only work if the LandSay servers are functioning properly. Otherwise, yea.. long and tedious.

I like the idea of "export view" so it dumps all the images of your current view to a different location.

... and therefore an 'import' function would be equally useful! The best way surely to move lots of data around in conjunction with the installable .exe's!

I think we would need a more meaningful naming convention though!

I got a real hassle when downloading the "exe" add-on packs. So I'm using the zip file option instead. However, I'm assuming that you have to extract the zip file into WW program directory.....and if so, do you OVERWRITE the cache folder ???

Hey Pikey, I was just looking at your picture of the graveyard for airplanes that you posted in hot spots. What settings and files are you using. Even my digital US black and white is not as clear as your color picture, and all my color options are just blurs at the altitude of your planes picture.

I have latest ver of ww and all the cash packs installed but something must not be working right?

p.s. If anyone else has an answer, please let me know.

Thanks,

James

congrats on bringing back a 9 month old thread, and talking to a user that probably isnt even here anymore. Next time try using Private messages. As for the issue, he is using USGS Urban Area ortho and you are using USGS 1m Ortho, click the USGS Urban Area ortho button.

And for double-posting. ;) Please, next time only post once. Don't worry, we'll find you. Double-posting just complicates things, with some people answering one thread, and others answering another, it's a mess.
