Never mind the mac! I pay taxes, and I want a perfectly running version of World Wind for my toaster oven! Dammit, it should work for -every- platform there is! Stupid devs, can't get anything done!

Probably because there isn't a mac handy just yet?
The source IS on sourceforge (check developer threads) so someone can take the code retol it to run on a mac. (Being written in C# makes portability a little harder)

Makes it harder indeed. Oh, wait, it makes it harder for everybody else but the windows crowd. And even being in C# hasn't stopped the program from leaking memory, getting slower by the minute and having other bugs (which is expected).
Blame slashdot as much as you want, but it had its use: to be a big beta test for this program. Too bad the presure is up now.

It got slashdotted before it's even officailly released. It's still a work in progress. Have some patience......and grill your toast, sheesh! :P

I guess mono is a long way from being able to build world wind. It's not just about C#.
But enough ranting. It's a great application and worth the wait.
I'm glad it's not for mac. The developers of this application would have had to get NASA to purchase one in order to test it out, and that would be a waste of money. Until Apple allows their OS to run on third-party hardware, I'm glad my government isn't spending money on overpriced computer hardware.

*Quick Blurb before I don't read this thread anymore*
I'm not an expert c++ programmer, nor did I have any experience with OpenGL or graphics programming up until 1 year ago when I joined this project. Although I'm not a c# expert by a long shot, it has allowed me to accomplish much of what I set for myself in a fairly reasonable time frame. I truly believe that if I was not using c# and Managed DirectX for this program, we would be at least 3 months behind where we are today, and would have far more bugs than exist right now.
We do have a 17" powerbook that I carry along with my Dell Inspiron when I'm not in the office. I'm currently probing possible ways to port World Wind to OSX, and as soon as I settle on the right approach, the effort will be on its way.
We always understood the importance of having a Mac version, but at the same time, it was important for us to have *something* period. For this reason, C# and Managed DirectX allow for very fast prototyping, while providing a solid framework that other applications can build on.
Mac fans should keep their spirits high because World Wind will be on the mac, it'll just suffer the usual 6 month lag that other software projects fall fate to. Remember too, this project still isn't *officially* released... B)
