Wow - Motion Momentum, coupled with right click/drag angle view changes, makes a pretty cool approach/departure/flyby technique. Wonder who the first genius will be to integrate full USGS mapping w/terrain data into Flight Simulator or X-Plane.

Doing it 'manually' with WW is pretty cool, but flying with a stick with the real thing would be even better.

Or is detailed USGS imagery already included in a flight sim program somewhere? (the 'artificially generated' stuff is no fun - give me real sat/aerial images).

Thanks
Jim

Support for a joystick has always been one of those little features we've toyed with but have not gotten to work fully yet. We've had World Wind working with a joystick before but it wasn't high on our priority list. Maybe we'll have joystick support in the near future.

Hey Paul, you 'da man! Thanks. I'll volunteer for the alpha or beta of that feature. :D

Guess I gotta register for the forum now ;)

MS Flight Simulator uses satellite images for ground textures, just not the super high res you see with this.

As far as I know the Scenery from Flight Gear is based on Satellite Images.
At least it using the SRTM Data for the hills and valleys.

The standart Scenery has standart textures but there is also a photorealistic version. What I can see from the screenshots I would they its USGS Urban.

The flight sim idea was the first in my head when I saw this. If it's not done it might become one of my CS major projects. I really think that flight gear would be the most deserving sim for this effort. Open sim open World Wind.
